Boris Dittrich - Human rights, sexual orientation and gender identity: ensuring the universal readh of human rights protection

Boris Dittrich is the Advocacy Director for Human Rights Watch's Lesbian, Gay,Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Program.

Prior to joining the organization in 2007, he was a member of the Dutch national parliament for over 12 years
during which he initiated the same sex marriage and adoption bills, making the Netherlands the first country to legalize civil marriage for gays and lesbians.

Boris also worked on the launch of the landmark Yogyakarta Principles at the UN in 2007. Boris studied at Leiden University, served as a District Court judge and is the author of two books on LGBT rights.
