AHRCentre hosts 'one of South Africa's new heroes'

Leading South African human rights activist, academic and Constitutional Court judge, Edwin Cameron, spent a day at UNSW Law presenting a lunchtime talk to students and Faculty on the rule of law and constitutionalism and met with Visiting Professors, judges and constitutional law academics over afternoon tea to discuss bills or rights, the value (and limitations) of law, and the vulnerability of rights when they impede power. Declared 'one of South Africa's new heroes' by Nelson Mandela, Justice Cameron was the first senior South African official to publicly disclose his diagnosis of HIV and was awarded the Nelson Mandela Award for Health and Human Rights for his courage in raising public awareness of the disease.

We are grateful to the Human Rights Law Centre in Melbourne for hosting Justice Cameron's visit to Australia and for their support of his AHRCentre events.
