AHRCentre board member, Louise Chappell and hosted a seminar with academic and author Sarah Nouwen on how the International Criminal Court’s principle of complementarity has triggered law reform and domestic prosecutions at the national level in Uganda, Sudan and other states currently under investigation by the ICC. Sarah is Lecturer in Law, University of Cambridge and fellow of the Lauterpacht Centre for International Law and Pembroke College. Her forthcoming book Complementarity in the Line of Fire: The International Criminal Court in Uganda and Sudan (CUP, 2013) is a study of the ICC’s catalysing effect based on empirical research in the two countries.
